Environmental protection: The Czech Republic restricts the use of herbicides that can cause cancer

 

According to Agriculture Minister Miroslav Toman (Miroslap Toman), the Czech Republic will ban the "widespread use" of glyphosate for herbicides as well as drugs that promote plant growth. Such substances will be used only when no effective alternative is available.

Statistics from the Czech Ministry of Agriculture show that the use of glyphosate in the country has decreased significantly, from 935,000 liters in 2013 to 750,000 liters last year. 
 
Glyphosate is one of the ingredients in Monsanto's Roundup herbicide. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that glyphosate can cause cancer in humans, last year the European Union (EU) approved the continued use of this chemical on the market. school for another 5 years (until 2022). There are 18/28 EU countries that support the use  of the above substance, including the Czech Republic and Germany. France is a staunch opponent and has led a group of EU members demanding research to find an alternative to the controversial "herbicide" glyphosate. However, the EU allows member states to decide for themselves whether to ban the substance in their countries.
 
On August 10, a court in the US state of California ordered Monsanto to pay $289 million to Mr. Dewayne Johnson, suffering from terminal cancer because he used Monsanto's Roundup drug to take care of him. took care of school gardens for nearly 30 years.
